When Mike Duffy started his journey of making wine under his own “Optima” label he started with a $5,000 tax refund. His vision was to create high end Cabernet Sauvignon. With very little capital Mike knew that could only take him so far. What he did do was create the quality everyday wine brand, Fitch Mountain. In the beginning this was to be a wine that would be phased out in the market once his premium wine hit the shelf.
More than thirty years have passed and his love for making Fitch Mountain wines has continued.
He fell in love with the vineyards and enjoys making quality wine at a value price. Over the years Fitch Mountain has produced Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Chardonnay from both Napa and Sonoma appellations. The brand has received many awards and press along the years. I think it is safe to say Fitch Mountain is here to stay.
